In the early to mid-1990s I first became interested in photography and joined my first camera club. Due to pressures of work and the camera club to which I belonged to closing, my interest dwindled. My interest was rekindled mid 2013 when I bought my first DSLR. At the end of that year I enrolled in a photography course at the local college and joined Glemsford Photographic Club. At the beginning of 2014 I won their novice section of their annual Competition and moved up in to the advanced section and won the annual Competition in that section for 2015. Whilst at Glemsford I developed an interest in night photography and would be found walking along the banks of the Thames and around the City of London from dusk to the early hours of the morning. I stayed at Glemsford till mid-2017.
In September 2016 I joined Bury St Edmunds Photographic Society to take my photography further. I have enjoyed a fair amount of success in many of the competitions at the Society. I can still be found walking along the banks of the Thames, as this is one of my most favourite places for night photography. Quite often these days I can be seen with another photographer, to whom, in many cases, I am giving tuition in my style of night photography.
For me there is a magic that happens when night falls as the scene can change from the mundane to something special. I can go to the same spot on different nights, take the same view and the resulting images can be totally different. This can be due to many factors for example, the height of the tide, the cloud heights (or lack of them) and the light reflecting from them.
I am also keen at developing into other genres of photography as well as taking my love of night photography further.
