Nick Alston ARPS AWPF DPAGB BPE2*
My passion for photography started back in 1974 when I purchased a Zenith B SLR film camera and joined Benfleet Camera Club as a 16-year-old. It was not until I retired as a teacher, I had the time to pursue my old hobby and re-join the club half a century later. I enjoy the challenge of club competitions, working towards distinctions and exhibitions. Being part of the ‘Beyond Group’ allows to me share my photography with a group of like-minded people, being inspired and receiving supportive advice, which helps me to realise the finer points of producing a ‘good’ image.
I enjoy Portraiture, Architecture, Travel and Action photography, but in addition I decided that I needed a project. So, in 2020 I made a short film and produced a series of still images of an Orphanage in India to help them with their fundraising. It was an amazing, highly emotional experience, and I achieved ‘Associate of the Royal Photography Society’ for my work. Since then, I have become interested in Sports Photography and cover Rugby, Football, Hockey and Boxing for local clubs and organisations.
I love the feeling of striving for that perfect image and the fact that you never stop learning.
