I first became interested in photography in the late eighties but became more serious in 2010 when I bought my first DSLR.
I consider myself to be a pictorial photographer. I do not focus on a particular genre, rather I am attracted by colour, texture, shape and form, the light or a moment in time. I enjoy visiting museums and galleries for architecture and people watching, and the coast for the colours, quality of light and sense of peace and space. I am not much of a planner and just enjoy seeing what happens on the day.
I like simplicity and so most of my images have a limited colour palette of complimentary or harmonious colours. I also enjoy black & white photography including the creation of minor-key images without a full tonal range or a black point.
I hope to communicate a mood, an atmosphere or an emotion with my photography. I also enjoy creating a certain softness in some of my images utilising white layers and my own textures in post-processing.
More recently, I have started to use in-camera techniques such as intentional camera movement and multiple exposure to create more abstract images. Printing is very important to me and the final step in the creative process.
